    We use one of those red countdown timers so she can see how long quiet time lasts. ADHD brains struggle with time, so this takes the guesswork (and anxiety) out of it.
  2. Let Them Choose
    “Do you want to color or listen to a story?”—giving two options makes her feel in control and keeps meltdowns at bay.
  3. Join Them, Then Sneak Away
    Sometimes I sit with her for the first five minutes to help her settle. Once she’s engaged, I back away like a ninja with coffee in hand.
  4. Keep Expectations Real
    Some days, quiet time is 15 minutes. Others, it’s 45. It’s okay. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s peace (for both of you).
