Becoming a new mom is like becoming a whole new person. Everyone prepares you for what baby will need once they’re born. No one really talks about what mom will need after being born too though. Between the bleeding, possible tears, lack of sleep, and everything in between, these are post partum essentials all new moms need.
Frozen Meals
Having frozen meals on hand is a definite essential after giving birth. As a mother’s body is trying to heal, while also caring for a newborn, cooking is the last thing on her mind. Some mothers are blessed to have help while healing and have people to cook for them, but some don’t. So having frozen meals, whether they be meal prepped or bought from the store, will help a lot. A new mom NEEDS to make sure she’s eating. Breastfeeding or not, getting in enough food will help both her healing and energy during this new transition in her life.
Witch Hazel Pads
Whether a mother tears or not, witch hazel pads are a great and refreshing way for new moms to give themselves a little bit of care down there post partum. Swelling is bound to happen as well as bleeding and/ or itching from healing stitches. So, adding witch hazel to a pad or diaper will help to soothe that area. If giving birth in a hospital, many times they’ll provide you with a pack, but you can also find them online or your local grocery store with a pharmacy.
Hand Breast Pump
I guess this one would apply mainly to moms who plan to breastfeed but for those who don’t, they can still benefit from this. Whether a mom chooses to breastfeed or not, her milk will come in and block ducts hurt like heck! Having a hand breast pump like the Haakaa can help to relieve some of the engorgement. It’s also great to use to catch excess milk from the breast not being fed from for those moms who are breastfeeding. It’s great that a hand pump is easier to wash. You also don’t have to worry about prep when using it.
Red Raspberry Leaf Tea
This is a must for all new moms because the uterus must shrink back. Red Raspberry Leaf Tea has been known to help strengthen the uterus prior to delivery. Sometimes less is more. There are many articles that say moms need many things in order to get through the post partum period. But with this period being as stressfull as it is, most moms are just trtying to survive. Sometimes less is more. The less items mom has to worry about being consistent with, the more likely she will be. The more consistent she is, the better she’ll feel sooner.
