Top 5 C-Section Recovery Must Haves

c section recovery

Becoming a new mother is one of the most difficult things a woman can go through. Becoming a new mother while trying to recover from major abdominal surgery is a whole different thing. Whether it be your first-time giving birth or your 5th, recovering from a c section birth is always going to be a time where you’ll need a little more support to help you heal and take care of yourself while also caring for your newborn. Here are the Top 5 C-section Recovery Must Haves all new moms should have! I’ll be linking all of these items as well for your convenience!

Adult Diapers

Using adult diapers makes it so much easier to change yourself when going to the bathroom post-partum. Even though you may have had a c section you’ll still be bleeding while your uterus shrinks back to size. Since they can be ripped open on the sides it’s easier to maneuver around the c section wound. They’re also just as big as the massive pads normally used post-partum. Also, they’re not too tight which is great because they will go over your sutures without irritation.

Silicone Scar Sheets

The next must have for c section recovery are silicone scar sheets. These are great to use in order to minimize the appearance of the c section scar after birth. The material itself makes it safe to use after surgery in order to not only minimize the appearance of the scar but keep the area clean and taught throughout the healing process.

High Waisted Underwear

Along with the adult diapers, having comfortable high waisted underwear is also something all c section mamas need. After major abdominal surgery, you won’t want anything rubbing against or touching your scar like underwear or even pants. This means the higher the better, at least for the first few weeks. Truth be told, 3 years later and these are still my favorite undies to wear!

Upside Down Peri Bottle

So, although peri bottles are usually given for free at the hospital, for c section recovery I recommend an upside-down peri bottle. The reason is because even if you didn’t give birth vaginally, you’ll still bleed. Using a peri bottle is one of the easiest ways to stay clean down there. With the c section incision, it’ll be hard and painful to bend over even slightly to make sure that you’re reaching all the areas with a normal peri bottle. With an upside down one, there will be much less effort on moms’ part which is a must during recovery and to heal properly.

Pain Relief

This last one is a given, but pain management is also a must have for any major surgery. That includes a c section. Even if you’re breast feeding, some sort of pain management, like Motrin is essential in order to be comfortable and to be able to rest and function while healing. Keep in mind that this is major abdominal surgery you’ve just had so give yourself the respect of being able to take care of yourself the best you can. Don’t suffer more than you need to in order to get through it.

Keep in mind, none of this is medical advice. These are simply tips and products that helped me recover from my c section. So, I’m sharing these Top 5 C-Section Recovery Must Haves in order to hopefully help another mama heal as comfortably as possible from her surgery. Motherhood is hard enough and not all moms have the village they deserve to confide in things like this.

If you’re a c section mom and have any tips on what helped you in your recovery, please be sure to let us know!
